Frequently Asked Questions

Which conditions can be helped by Reflexology?

Reflexology helps reduce anxiety, stress and tension and can boost and balance bodily systems through a holistic approach. This builds a person’s resilience and helps them to manage pain and discomfort arising from their condition, or from the side effects of any related treatment.

There are many related benefits to male and female health across conditions affecting the body’s primary systems: circulatory, digestive, endocrine, immune, integumentary (your body’s outer layer), musculo-skeletal, nervous, respiratory, and reproductive.

The evidence base for the effectiveness of reflexology is growing thanks to increasing collaboration between Reflexology member associations and clinicians, together with the increased ‘social prescribing’ of complementary therapies by Health professionals.

As a new client, what can I expect to happen at my first treatment?

A first treatment typically lasts 90 minutes. We start with a free 30 minute introduction and medical consultation and discuss your treatment aims and any preferences or requirements, including the depth of pressure.

Treatments are given in a comfortable reclining chair. You remain fully clothed so loose clothing is advised. I will lightly cleanse your feet or face depending on your treatment. Blankets are available to help keep you warm and comfortable and relaxing music can be available as you prefer.

Your first one hour treatment helps me identify and investigate any imbalances in the reflexes in a very relaxing way. I use my thumbs, fingers and hands to work your reflexes and use creams or wax when working areas of hard skin or when giving a closing massage. I use a bespoke serum on the face. All products are organic and ethically sourced and traceable.

I invite feedback, including on any sensations you may feel in your feet or other body parts as this helps me to tailor your treatment. At the end of the treatment, I ask for further feedback and give aftercare advice. I advise you on the number and frequency of follow up treatments and options to help optimise the effect. I then create a bespoke treatment plan based on your treatment aims, my findings and your medical history. Going forward, we will review your health and well-being at the start of all further treatments, as well as any changes to your medication or lifestyle.

Taster sessions are available if you would like to experience a shorter treatment, without completing a full consultation.

Can a Reflexologist diagnose and cure any conditions?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy and should never be used as an alternative to medical advice. Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe.

Is it possible to book treatments in other locations such as my house, workplace or in other settings such as Care Home, Hospice or Hospital ?

Yes, I work in other locations in Aberystwyth and the surrounding area so please contact me to discuss. Such treatments may be charged at an agreed higher fee to cover my fuel and travel time.

Can you treat children and young people?

Yes, children and young people can benefit from reflexology. Children under 16 must obtain parent or guardian consent and be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the treatment.

How will I feel after the treatment?

Each reflexology treatment is very individual and tailored. How you feel will, therefore, depend on a number of physical and non-physical factors.

Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation after a treatment and some may feel energised. Some might have lower energy and notice changes in body temperature, but this is usually brief and considered part of the healing process.

I will give full aftercare advice and can be contacted after your treatment if you would like to discuss this further.

Can I claim the cost of my treatment through my private health insurance?

It may be possible to claim treatments from some private health care providers as I am registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council. Please check with your provider and I can provide invoices and receipts.

How will my personal information be kept confidential and secure?

I hold a Data Protection Registration Certificate issued by The Information Commissioner’s Office (Reference ZB541997) and all data is recorded and secured to comply with legislation and best practice.
